Biography
 

Philip Gerson’s plays have been produced or developed at the Cleveland Playhouse, the Colony Theatre, the NY International Fringe Festival, the Berkshire Playwrights Lab, the Road Theatre, Gayfest NY, and the Telluride Playwrights Festival, among others.

Philip originally trained as an actor at the American Conservatory Theatre in his native San Francisco  and at Juilliard in New York.  After working off-Broadway and around the country, he moved to Los Angeles where he began his career as a writer.

Philip started out writing screenplays, which were sold, commissioned or optioned by such companies as Paramount Pictures, River City Productions and Grossbart-Barnett Productions.  He then moved into television where his extensive credits as a writer and producer include two of the biggest hits in TV history – MURDER, SHE WROTE (for which he was Story Editor) and DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMEN (for which he served as Co-Executive Producer).

Philip’s other television series work includes COVER ME – BASED ON THE TRUE LIFE OF AN FBI FAMILY (Co-Executive Producer); LEGACY (Co-Executive Producer); CHRISTY (Executive Story Editor); and MYSTERIOUS WAYS.   He also wrote the hit TV movie, A CHANGE OF SEASONS.

He has also written episodes for other shows, and pilots for several networks.  His original pilot, R&D, was chosen by the Writers’ Guild of America to be published in its journal, “Written By”, as one of the six Best Unproduced Sci-Fi Scripts.

Philip is the recipient of the Institute for Mental Health’s Dialogue Award; the Entertainment Industry Council’s Prism Award; and the Film Advisory Board Award, all for his work in television.
